1. The original six-sided dice were made from animal bones, which is why playing craps is commonly referred to as “rolling the bones.”
2. Back when blackjack first evolved, a special bonus was paid out whenever a player hit a “natural 21,” which is a black suited Ace and Jack – hence the name “blackjack.”
3. Spanish 21 is a more difficult version of Blackjack. It’s played with the 10-cards removed, to make the chances of hitting 21 even more slim.
4. Invented in the early 1700’s, roulette was originally called “roly poly.” It wasn’t until around 1796 that it was introduced to the French and renamed.
5. Roulette wheels in Europe differ from those in America because the American style wheel has a “double zero slot in play. This extra slot increases the house advantage.
6. If you add all the numbers on a roulette wheel, they equal exactly 666. For this reason, many superstitious folks believe it’s the game of the devil!
7. Charles Fey invented the first three-reel slot machine in San Francisco 1895. In 1898, he designed his famous “Liberty Bell Slot Machine.”
8. The largest slot machine jackpot was awarded to a 25-year old woman at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. On March 21, 2003, she cashed out with $35,713,982.25.
9. Poker is said to have first appeared in America in 1829, when English actor, Joseph Crowell introduced the game to a group of fellow performers.
10. Poker was a favorite pastime of soldiers during the Civil War, where it’s said to have gained much of its recognition and popularity.
11. There are a total of 2,598,960 possible five-card poker hands that can be created using a standard 52-card deck.
12. A standard 90-ball bingo card offers approximately 44 million different winning combinations.
