Yesterday was International Women’s Day, but here at Casinos by M&M, we’re celebrating the entire Women’s History Month of March. As you know, there have been many important women that have shaped our country’s history: Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Florence Nightingale, Rosa Parks, Eleanor Roosevelt — the list goes on and on. But, did you know there are several women in the poker world that have helped contributed to the casino world as well?
In no particular order, here’s our list of the top 5 female poker players in history:
- Jennifer Harman: Some might say that Harman is the most respected female poker player to ever play the game. Her abilities are well-rounded and reach beyond the traditional no limit hold’em games, and her dedication to the sport has won her two World Series of Poker bracelets and two World Poker Tour titles.
- Kathy Liebert: She’s a fierce competitor alright, and she’s got just over $6 million in tournament earnings to prove it! Not only that, but her earning also land her second on the all-time female money list. She’s been a big player in the World Series of Poker for almost two decades, making her first final table debut in 1997.
- Annette Obrestad: Norway’s finest has been playing poker for years, and even stirred up some controversy by playing underrage online. Still, she’s an incredible player and was once able to win an online poker tournament without even looking at her hole card. Talk about skill and confidence!
- Vanessa Selbst: With almost $12 million in tournament earnings, Selbst sits at the top spot on the all-time female money list. She’s won main events on the Partouche Poker Tour and North American Poker Tour, and has two World Series of Poker bracelets and two World Poker Tour tables under her belt.
- Liv Boeree: She might be one of the youngest players on the list, but she’s also the highest earning female poker player from England. Her biggest score to date was won at a European Poker Tour main event in San Remo during the 2010 series, to the tune of nearly $1.7 million.
Though they’re all individually unique, hailing from different countries and playing with different strategies, they all still have one thing in common — dedication and determination. These women worked hard to make a name for themselves in a male-dominated arena, and to that we salute them!
